When monitoring the performance of applications and networks, the more insight you have into the actual traffic, the better. NetFlow provides this insight.

Without the need of probes or sniffers, you can quickly and continuously monitor the makeup of the traffic traversing your most critical links. SevOne's NetFlow tool allows you to quickly spot bandwidth hogs and wasteful traffic, and gives you an understanding of how applications are using your network. These insights are critical to the decisions on how best to prioritize traffic and on the creation of policies to eliminate wasteful traffic

Immediate Access to Historical Data

  • Collecting at one-second intervals,  SevOne Appliances store up to seven days of raw NetFlow data and one year of aggregated flow data at one-minute intervals for each report template and interface, allowing you to detect micro-spikes or short bursts of activity that can cause network disruption.

  • SevOne enables troubleshooting of low bandwidth and high impact events such as DNS storms, which is not possible with other flow-based solutions.

  • One-second visibility with raw data allows you to see small bursts of traffic, which can reveal important information.

Identifies Rogue Applications

  • With port-based identification, SevOne provides a list of recognized applications. You can customize this list to track and report on applications specific to your environment.

  • You can use “Type of Service” (ToS) Filters to identify the traffic running on your network, as well as non-approved applications that are consuming bandwidth. You can also determine the impact of the traffic and the non-approved applications on your Quality of Service (QoS) policies.



Identify Top Talkers

  • SevOne provides a Top Talkers report to show quickly what type of traffic contributed to the spike. From this Top Talker view, SevOne enables users to resolve DNS as well as check the “Next Hop.”

 

 

 

 


SevOne Monitoring Technologies

 

SevOne uses multiple protocols and standards to collect, monitor, report and analyze performance statistics. This multi-faceted approach allows SevOne to monitor any node in enterprise and service provider networks, including routers, switches, servers, firewalls, load balancers, VoIP phones, eNodeBs, Element Management System (EMS) NIDs, and UPS devices — as well as every application, operating system or process that is instrumented. Among the monitoring technologies and protocols that SevOne supports are SNMP, ICMP, NetFlow, IP SLA, NBAR, WMI, JMX, VMware vCenter API, and RTCP and SIP.

 

SevOne collects data using a range of out-of-the-box plug-ins. Years of honing its federated database schema have made internal plug-in development process easy — support for new methods of statistic collection can be added faster than anyone in the market. SevOne appliances support all plug-in types by default, including:

 

 


SNMP

 

The SNMP plug-in is built for speed and flexibility, and uses a series of templates across device types that define what is to be polled and how the information is to be analyzed and presented. These templates permit new device types that support standard MIBs to be monitored right away upon introduction.Importing definitions for new MIBs and objects is easily done in minutes using SevOne's SNMP Object Editor. With an easy-to-use interface, even the most complex and proprietary MIBs can be easily configured.

NetFlow

 

 


VM Monitoring

 

The SevOne VM monitoring plug-in and VM Browser use the VMware vSphere API to dynamically discover the ESX hosts associated with a vCenter. Users can view and select the host devices and their guest VM objects for monitoring, and new hosts are automatically discovered as they are added to a vCenter. Key performance indicators are then collected from vCenter and the ESX servers.

 

With SevOne VM Plug-in, you can:

 

Leverage vSphere API integration to auto-discover and collect metrics from vCenter and ESX host servers.

Support multiple vCenters for a global view of your entire virtual infrastructure or across multiple tenants.

Maintain the performance history of VM metrics with vMotion support when moved.




WMI

 

The SevOne WMI Plug-in supports the collection and reporting of key performance indicators via the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) for Windows, server applications.

 

With the SevOne WMI Plug-in, you can:

 

Monitor the performance of Microsoft server applications, including Exchange, Active Directory, IIS and SharePoint.

 

 


Server Process

 

The SevOne Server Process Plug-in monitors server CPU, memory and the number of instances for each process. SevOne alerts you when a process stops running or uses too much CPU or memory.

 

With the SevOne Server Process Plug-in, you can:

 

Diagnose which process running on the server has the highest utilization.

 

Easily report on which process consumes the most resources on the server.

 

 


HTTP

 

The SevOne HTTP Plug-in can automatically query web pages to determine if they respond appropriately. Results are stored over time, and are analyzed to calculate baselines and create proactive alerting thresholds.

 

With the SevOne HTTP Plug-in, you can:

 

Quickly see page response speed, the amount of data transferred, and whether the page responded with error messages.

 

Monitor key elements to create the reports necessary for assessing slow application response time.

JMX

 

The SevOne JMX Plug-in supports the monitoring of Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) applications and infrastructure via the JMX (Java Management Extensions) API. Any key performance indicator exposed by the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) or by a Java application can be monitored by selecting it from a GUI-based configuration screen.

  

With the SevOne JMX Plug-in, you can:

 

Visualize common JMX or MBean indicators, such as per-component transaction rates, per-thread memory and CPU utilization, and thread and connection pool utilization.

Proxy Ping and ICMP

 

The SevOne Proxy Ping and ICMP Plug-ins allow SevOne to measure response time from an end user perspective by simulating transactions on the network from any network device to another on the network. By defining the type of packet and the destination device, these response time tests deliver valuable data to ensure that the network is delivering the data your users need to do their jobs.

 

With SevOne Proxy Ping and ICMP Plug-ins, you can:

IP SLA

 

Using Cisco's IP SLA network technology, SevOne can create and graph synthetic, active measurements of end-to-end network performance between any two points on the network. This capability lets you validate network performance as measured by latency, jitter, packet loss and throughput, independent of the devices that transmit network traffic.

 

 With SevOne IP SLA Plug-in, you can:

 

Gather traffic statistics that cannot be observed externally.

 

Validate the performance of independent devices that transmit network traffic.

 

Analyze the end user quality of experience (QoE).

NBAR

 

NBAR (Network-Based Application Recognition) analyzes application traffic patterns in real time and discovers which applications are running on the network without using NetFlow. Using NBAR, you can discover what applications are running on the network and monitor their resource consumption, all with minimal impact and network overhead. This capability helps you classify voice and data traffic, and assists you in setting priority policies for traffic. You can set thresholds on individual protocols for a device, and receive alerts when they go beyond the set threshold. 

 

With SevOne NBAR Plug-in, you can:

 

Track applications running on the network and their resource consumption.

 

Set thresholds for individual protocols on an interface.

SevOne's Port Shaker plug-in connects to and monitors server application response time on any designated TCP port.

xStats™

 

The SevOne xStats™ Plug-in acquires bulk performance statics from SevOne xStats™ adapters. These xStats adapters integrate with 3rd party probes and EMS (element management systems) from network equipment vendors that provide management functions for LTE, IMS and Ethernet backhaul components in networks.

 

With SevOne xStats Plug-in, you can:
